In this viral video, we can see that the robot isn't like, delicately serving up broth or meat to the customers so they can make their hotpot meal. Far from it!
At least it didn't start a food fight… but the little fellow is flailing/dancing instead of working. The waitstaff seem flustered as they try to put a stop to it. I hope that the customers at least got a kick of out seeing this whole thing play out!
Maybe this robot still has a bright future ahead of it! Now that it's made a name for itself online, the restaurant could clear a spot for it in the middle of the room and let it have a great time while customers watch.

Other people quipped that this was just one more robot that could be taking a person's job! I don't think that'll happen any time soon, though. This robot is a “server” in about the same way that the conveyor belt at a sushi restaurant is a “waiter." At least conveyor belts move fast and have a purpose. But in this stage of robotics, robots often look like humans, while not doing their jobs nearly as well as an actual human could. A robot like this is way more effective when it's like, one of those serving trays that move around. It doesn't need limbs! It just needs to serve one specific purpose!
For whatever reason, tech folks really want their robots to look like humans, and that's taken a long time because teaching a robot to be bipedal requires a ridiculous amount of skill. If you don't believe me, just watch any video compilation of robots falling over!
Even the best robot on the planet could never replace a skilled waiter, though. Being a waiter is a skilled job that requires a lot of knowledge, people skills, and speed, and a robot just doesn't have what it takes, I fear.

Others wondered why there wasn't a simpler solution...
But to be fair, I can't imagine they just let the employees operate what must be a very expensive toy. Probably only like the managers or a seperate kind of tech person knows how to operate this little robot. But how hard could it be to turn it off? Is it really a multistep process, or is there a little off switch on its back somewhere?
